Coaching, Advocacy and Case Review
Supporting communication and collaboration
Coaching
I offer practical, compassionate coaching for parents, caregivers, and partners of individuals with communication disabilities. Coaching is not clinical therapy. It’s an opportunity to ask questions and feel more confident in your role as your loved one’s communication partner. This service is offered in both individual and group settings, in English and in Spanish. Together, we explore topics like:
-
Supporting speech, language, and play development at home
-
Navigating screen time, routines, or challenging behaviors
-
Choosing toys, books, and strategies that encourage connection
-
Understanding developmental milestones (and how flexible they really are)
-
Identifying when additional support might be helpful—and how to access it locally
Advocacy and Case Review
I support families in understanding special education systems, preparing for meetings, and advocating for communication access and inclusion using neurodiversity-affirming principles. Drawing on my experience working within both school and family settings, I help teams engage in collaborative, values-aligned conversations and develop education plans that reflect the strengths, priorities, and needs of the family. While I do not act as a language interpreter, I speak both English and Spanish and am happy to work with mono- and bilingual families who may face additional barriers in accessing the right services for their children.
What this may look like
-
Reviewing clinical and educational documentation (i.e. evaluations, Individualized Education Programs [IEPs]) for clarity, consistency, and alignment
-
Reviewing formal service and treatment plans and offering an informed perspective on formal service and treatment plans through a disability justice and neurodiversity-affirming lens
-
Meeting with families early in their special education process and helping to explore and articulate challenges and values
-
Attending planning meetings to support client/family participation and shared understanding among team members
Note: Coaching and advocacy services are educational and advisory in nature and do not replace school-based decision-making, clinical services, or legal counsel.
